Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Act 2008
This Bill has created a lot of interest in all who have informed themselves
Below we have listed other law and items relevant to this debate.

Items in yellow are links - click on them for articles

Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Act 2008: http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/lz/c/a/serious%20and%20organised%20crime%20(control)%20act%202008/current/2008.13.un.pdf

Find Sandra's Open letter to Motorcyclists: http://www.mrasa.asn.au/pdf/sandra.pdf

Copy of Universal Declaration of Human Rights: http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html
Article 6- "an individual before the law"
Article 7 - "EQUAL before the law.."
Article 8 - " right to (uh..) "due process".
Article 9 - " arbitrary arrest"
Article 11 - presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
Aerticle 12 - right to privacy.
All of these are contradicted in the Bill !! and more.

Copy of Magna Carta: http://www.britannia.com/history/docs/magna2.html
as the basis of all modern law.
Article 39 - alludes to "due process" and innocence until guilty Article 40 - right to justice and others.

English Bill of Rights 1688 (our only law about our rights!!)
http://reactor-core.org/english-bill-of-rights.html
This one is more complex but,
Article 1 (part1) - dispensing with Federal Law and International Law by State Law is not allowed.
Article 9 (part2) - freedom of speech
and inherent within the document.

From the Department of Immigration website at:
http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/values/background/index.htm

What are the Australian values?

Australian values include:
  • * respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual

  • * equality of men and women

  • * freedom of religion

  • * commitment to the rule of law

  • * support for Parliamentary democracy

  • * a spirit of egalitarianism that embraces mutual respect,

  • tolerance, fair play, compassion for those in need and pursuit of the public good
  • * equal opportunity for individuals, regardless of their race, religion or ethnic background

  • Although these values may be expressed differently by different people, their meaning stays the same. The values may not be unique to Australia, but they have broad community agreement and underpin Australian society and culture.
The /Life in Australia/ book contains information about Australian history, culture and social structures. It is designed to help you understand Australian values before you sign the values statement on your visa application.

What is the Australian Values Statement?

The Australian Values Statement requires all applicants to confirm that they will respect Australian values and obey Australian laws.

The Law Society and the Bar Association have released a joint statement. Click this link:
